Thor Heyerdahl

The Kon-Tiki is a gloriously reckless, carefree, madcap adventure yarn. A bunch of blokes who cannot swim build a balsa wood raft and launch out into the Pacific Ocean in an attempt to prove a half-baked anthropological theory about early human migration patterns. I love this book.
“In my experience, it is rarer to find a really happy person in a circle of millionaires than among vagabonds.”

This is one of 20 adventurers featuring in my new book for children, #GreatAdventurers, available to pre-order now, here – (or here if you are not in the UK –

Now you’re talking! Thor’s expeditions have thrown a wrench in many archaeological theories, His reed boat expedition was cool too even though it was kind of a fail.

  2. Joshua Magaw says:

Alastair, did you see the recent expose that “the Thread” did on Alby Mangels? It’s worth a watch if you haven’t seen it. Your adventures have always reminded me of stuff Mangels would’ve done.
